In this Hubpages article, I will discuss how to use Hubpages to promote your plastic surgery practice to patients. The key is to educate your patients in a relevant and engaging way; always putting information before conformation. What I mean to say is that it is more important to give out good quality information than to receive a "sale".

Here are some practical steps you can take to help your cosmetic surgery marketing efforts by using Hubpages to promote your practice (and to help your SEO while you're at it).

Setting Up Your Account

When setting up your account, you'll want to first take some time to think about what to name your Hubpage account. For physicians, it's best to name your account by your real name with "Dr." in front or "M.D." following your name. Check to see if your name has been taken by another user. If there's another person using that name, try adjusting the place where "Dr." or "M.D." originally was. You can leave out periods and will likely have success.

Many plastic surgeons forget one big thing when setting up their account; filling in their profile completely. This helps Hubbers (Hubpages users) as well as the Hubpages system to recognize that your account belongs to a real person and not someone trying to spam. Attach a headshot of yourself, your office, or even a group photo of your staff in your profile. This is a great way to put a face to your name and give your account a more personal touch. Filled in profiles help your cosmetic surgery marketing efforts because you will get more followers if people can find out a little more about you when they visit your Hub.

In your bio, don't stick to only professional information. I know, this may go against what you're used to, but trust me...you want to create a connection with your readers; your personal information helps to accomplish this. Now, I don't mean unprofessionally personal information, obviously. Share what book you're reading right now, your favorite movie, which people you look up to, and some brief information about your family if you like. This may not be intuitive for you at first, but it will help your patients to relate to you and get to know you better.

The "Hairy Situation" Poll

What Would You Do with 100 New Patients?

  • Start referring them out to other plastic surgeons.
  • Jump for joy!
  • Hire more staff to meet the demand.
  • None of the above - I would hide my head in the sand!

What to Write About

Okay, this will probably be the easiest part of the process for you. Write about common questions you hear in the office from patients. A Hub titled "Top 5 Questions Every Miami Plastic Surgery Patient Should Get Answers To" is a catchy title and includes the keywords "Miami plastic surgery". You would insert your city name in the title to help your Hub article rank in for that key term.

If you use a good title, you'll catch the eye of readers and the search engines alike. How so? Because search engines look for keywords and rank you for those terms (hint, hint - excellent way to boost your cosmetic surgery marketing results). Readers need something witty, urgent, engaging to click through and read.

By taking the time to carefully craft good titles, you'll be doing yourself a world of good by attracting more readers and followers. A reader is someone who searches for something either on Google or in the Hubpages site whereas a follower is someone who has already read what you've written and wants to follow all future publications you make.

Write about the procedures you perform, in an educational and informative tone. You could write about funny medical school stories or even humorous patient situations (no names revealed...obviously). When giving your Hub a title, choose words and phrases that intrigue:

  • Secrets of a Miami Plastic Surgery Doctor
  • Confessions of a Miami Plastic Surgery Patient
  • Must-Know Facts About Miami Plastic Surgery
  • Top 5 Things Your Miami Plastic Surgery Doctor Isn't Telling Yo

You get the point; make titles creative and have fun!

Now Dress Your Hub Up in Style

Hubpages is great for sharing a professionally written article and combining it with pictures, links, RSS feeds, and more. Break your text up with pictures, links to your favorite blog sites, links to YouTube videos, news articles, or pages on the web. By doing this, you will capture the interest of your reader and keep their eyes on the page. Don't forget to either use Flickr pictures (see terms of use and always get permission before using photos) or Microsoft Clip Art. The latter is permission-free and can be used by opening a Word doc, clicking on "insert", then "Clip Art". Type in your keywords in the picture search field and then right click on the picture of your choice, then paste it into your "pictures" folder. Cosmetic surgery marketing needs to be visually-driven for your patients. Pictures and videos accomplish this!

Participate in the Hubpages Community

The single-best way to help your Hubpages article to gain more readership and rank int he search engines is to participate in the Hubpages community. Part of the whole concept of cosmetic surgery marketing to patients is reaching out to them right at their computer screen. Find other Hubbers who have written about plastic surgery or have questions. Pop in to the conversation and leave comments, offer helpful tips, and invite them to read what you have to say.

The more backlinks to your Hubpages article, the better it will do in the Hubpages rankings as well as in Google. Articles of higher importance simply do better (they are "voted" by readers as important through linking to that article anywhere on the web). The more you get involved, the better your reputation as an expert and the likelihood increases that readers will want to click on your profile to see what you have to say.

Another great way to participate in the community is to put polls up inside of your Hubpage articles. Look in the upper right area of your Hubpages account when you are composing a new Hub. You'll see that polls are one of the capsules you can add in. This gets readers involved! Polls are a great way to increase the effectiveness of your cosmetic surgery marketing online.

So, get in there and get involved! Enjoy your stay at Hubpages, take in the sights, and share your insights. You won't be sorry.
